Transition to Alderman Knight School
We work hard to make sure pupils have a smooth transition into Alderman Knight School.
The pastoral team support pupils who are transitioning into Alderman Knight School. There is no set structure for this as the needs for a pupil to make a smooth transition is different for everyone. There is also not set time when these transitions will take place. In order for a smooth transition, actions will often include:
The new pupil and parents come for a tour of the school with a member of the pastoral or senior team
An information pack about the relevant key stage is shared with new pupil and a separate one for parents
The pupil having a number of sessions in class with a group of Alderman Knight pupils to experience the curriculum provision
A gradual build-up in length of time at school at the pace suitable for the requirements of the new pupil before they begin full time
A member of the Senior Leadership Team will contact Parents and Carers to arrange a personalised transition plan. An information pack will be sent out with permission forms and school information.
How we prepare our pupils for moving on from school
In Year 11, our pupils have important decisions to make about their options. We start the decision-making process early to help them prepare for transition and make their choice. Our leavers go to a variety of settings after they leave depending on their needs and home location.
The thought of leaving school can be daunting. To help ease the process, we ensure everyone has the information, advice and guidance they need, and planning starts early.
The school employ Leon Sheppard as Transition Manager. Mr Sheppard can give impartial advice and information about all post 16 options and works closely with local authorities to support the transition process. Alderman Knight School has a good relationship with local colleges and opportunity providers which is so important for a smooth transition.
